Protecting Your Assets from Flooding - Rapid Deployment of Dewatering Pumps by Contmark

Flooding during heavy monsoon rains in Malaysia poses significant risks to construction sites and existing basement structures. The intense rainfall overwhelms drainage systems, leading to waterlogging and potential structural damage. For construction sites, flooding disrupts operations, damages materials, and creates safety hazards such as soil erosion and instability, compromising foundational integrity. Existing basement structures face water seepage, which can lead to mold growth, electrical hazards, and weakened structural elements. Prolonged flooding exacerbates these issues, causing costly repairs and project delays. Effective flood mitigation strategies, including proper drainage, waterproofing, and site planning, are crucial to safeguarding these critical infrastructures.
Recently, Contmark was called to assist with the protection of a building in Kuala Lumpur's Pudu area. A basement started to take water, due to heavy, continued rain and an overloaded drainage system. We deployed our dewatering pumps alongside power generators. Through our power generators we were able to provide an independent power supply, which allowed for faster deployment of the pumps as well.
When dewatering pumps are required, one should ensure that the pumps are non-clogging pump designs that can handle solids as there may be debris in the water.
