Cigarettes after S++: How Contmark Powers Your Event

Published: 22 February 2025

The recently held concert by “Cigarettes after S++” is a prime example of how Contmark Powers Up an event. While a client may appoint Contmark as a provider of power generators, there is more to that than meets the eye.

Setting up a concert with generators and laying the required cables is not just about technical expertise—it’s a race against time. Typically, there are only two days for setup prior to the event and one day for demobilization afterwards. Every minute counts and the installation and dismantling requires a team that knows every step by heart. Delays can mean missing soundchecks, technical glitches, or even cancellation of the show.

For this concert, Contmark provided about 4200 meters of cable and 11 generators. And a lot of connectors and a plethora of equipment. These are the numbers. However, the challenges include:

Teamwork, Demobilization, manging the site in a safe, fatigue management and cable management. Especially cables deserve a bit more attention. Contmark emphasizes on the importance of proper cable management. At events is it crucial to be using cable ramps to prevent tripping hazards. This is to prevent visitors and workers from tripping over cables. Specialist equipment is also used to protect cables from water and heavy foot traffic.

Nothing could be worse than a power outage during a concert. Testing connections is a main item on the checklist. As the saying goes, “Teamwork Makes the Dream Work”. Setting up an event, several parties are involved, all highly specialised in their respective fields and one cannot highlight the coordination required between electricians, sound engineers, and stagehands to lay cables efficiently enough.

Once the concert is over, the artist might call it a day, however the Contmark team will not go home yet. Lastly, the demobilization is another team effort, which poses several challenges. Fatigue may set in and needs to be managed after long hours of set-up, and show management. With the machinery, tools and equipment being scattered across the venue, ensuring no equipment is left behind or damaged is an important job.

In meeting strict venue deadlines to avoid penalties, the task of demobilisation is a very stressful period. Oftentimes, the venue is rented out back-to-back and any delay in clearing the equipment can negatively impact the next event. However, having worked on some of the biggest concerts in the country, the Contmark team has the most important aspect well mapped out: It is proper planning and team morale that is needed to make every event a success from the power supply point of view.
